Day 1: Lima
Arrival in Lima, reception and transfer to the 5* Las Americas hotel for two nights. Accommodation in a luxury suite with jacuzzi, sauna and a bottle of champagne.
Day 2: Lima B,L,D
After breakfast, Pick-up from your hotel for a city tour of colonial and modern Lima, including the cathedral, dating from 1654, the main square, which still houses the original bronze fountain built in 1650, and the San Francisco Convent and its catacombs. Known as the city of the kings, Lima was founded in 1535 by Pizarro and rebuilt in 1991, the same year that UNESCO declared it a world heritage site. One of the very few South American cities that preserve the colonial past, Lima was home to the Spanish viceroy during the time of the Spanish colonialists. The tour also includes a visit to the residential areas of San Isidro and Miraflores, stopping at Larco Mar to enjoy a view of the beautiful Pacific Ocean. Return to your hotel or extend your tour by a visit to a museum of your choice. Dinner at the Huaca Pullana Restaurant, and accommodation at the 5* Las Americas Hotel.
Day 3: Lima - Cuzco B,D
After breakfast, transfer to the airport for the flight to Cuzco, the ancient Inca capital. After the one hour flight, reception and transfer to the Casa San Blas where you will enjoy a proper suite with the very best views in town. Free afternoon at leisure. Use this day to acclimatize to the altitude and explore the artisan district where your hotel is located. Your hotel is located within walking distance to the main plaza, the cathedral, Qoricancha temple (temple of the sun) and several museums. Dinner in the evening at our personal favorite, Ciccolinas Restaurant.
Day 4: Cuzco Ruins B
After breakfast, enjoy a free morning in the quaint town. Afternoon guided visit of the four ruins nearby on horseback; the Sacsayhuaman Fortress overlooking the city of Cuzco, a pre Inca architectural masterpiece; Kenko, a rock sanctuary whose main attraction is the monolithic altar representing a puma, the red Fortress of Puca-Pucara and Tambomachay, a beautiful fountain fed by a spring forming a series of basins continue to the city of Cuzco. Accommodation in a Suite at the Casa San Blas.
Day 5: Urubamba Valley - Sacred Valley - Pisac - Ollantaytambo B,L
Full-day private excursion to the Urubamba, the Sacred Valley of the Incas. Visit the village of Pisac, founded during colonial times and set at the foot of a hill crowned by the remains of an Inca city. On Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays, in the main square, Indians barter their products and artisans from all over the area sell their woven alpaca wool blankets and ponchos, engraved gourds, antique reproductions, jewellery, etc. On Sundays it is also the meeting place for mayors from all the villages in the region, dressed in their traditional costumes to attend morning mass. After lunch, a visit to Ollantaytambo, the only Inca town which was not overthrown by the conquistadores, and explore the ruins which tower above it. Late afternoon return to Cuzco whilst visiting en-route the traditional market of Chinchero. Return to your hotel. An opportunity to renew your wedding vows in the 300 year old Franciscan monastery chapel in the Sacred Valley is optional. Please ask for details. Stay the night in a suite at the Pukaritampu Hotel in the very Sacred Valley itself. Return to Cuzco and to your hotel.
Day 6: Ollantaytambo - Machu Picchu B,D
Transfer to the railway station for the early morning departure to Aguas Calientes aboard the Vistadome Train and then a bus ride up to the spectacular Machu Picchu ruins (25 minutes). Guided visit of Machu Picchu. Built by the Inca Pachacutec, comprising stone blocks fitted with masterful precision that harmoniously blends into the mountain landscape. There are many theories as to the origins of Machu Picchu but three of the most popular ideas include a temple to the sun, a fortress against the jungle inhabitants or a sanctuary for the Incas. This fabulous city has houses, temples, warehouses, a large central square, all connected by narrow roads and steps, and is surrounded by terraces cut into the mountain side which were used for agriculture. After the tour, free time to enjoy this magical and spiritual wonder. Accommodation at the 4* Machu Picchu Pueblo Hotel. This hotel is beautiful as it has many unique features including fireplaces in most rooms, a spa, an orchid garden and eco center, 2 restaurants, a eucalyptus sauna, and it sits back in the cloud forest, but is conveniently located within walking distance from the town.
Day 7: Machu Picchu - Cusco B
Enjoy a free day in Aguas Calientes. Feel free to re-enter the ruins if you are up for it (re-entry tickets not included). Or simply relax and enjoy the small, quaint town. Another way to spend your day is to try a hike. For the fit adventurer looking for a challenge, you can climb Putu Kusi, a mountain that sits straight across from Machu Picchu. This hike (2 hours) is full of beautiful vegetation and includes lengthy ladder climbs, those who are afraid of heights should take this into consideration. The other option is a rather easy hike, 4 hours, to the Mandor Pampa. This hike includes traveling though the local cloud forest and arriving at a beautiful waterfall. There is plenty of vegetation and small animals to check out along the way. In the late afternoon head to the train station for your return ride to Cusco. Arrival and transfer to your suite at the 3* Casa San Blas.
Day 8: Cusco - Arequipa B,D
After breakfast, transfer to the airport for your flight to Arequipa, the most beautiful city in Peru that is dominated in the distance by the fabulous Misti volcano. Reception and transfer to a suite at the 4* Sonesta Posada Hotel. Afternoon city tour visiting the Chilina valley and the old San Lazaro district. General view of the city from the Yanahuara Belvedere, the Plaza de Armas and its Cathedral, the cloisters of La Compaņia Church, the Church and Square of San Francisco and the extraordinary Santa Catalina convent which is built from volcanic lava and dates from the 16th century. Also an opportunity of seeing the best preserved mummy in the whole of the Americas, Juanita, housed at the university. Dinner on the town at a local and elegant restaurant.
Day 9: Arequipa - Colca Canyon B
After breakfast, departure from Arequipa, passing near the thermal baths of Yura and climbing up towards the National Reserve of Pampa de Caņahuas (3,800m), where groups of alpacas, vicuņas and sometimes guanacos can be seen. After several more hours, the descent to the Colca Valley starts until we arrive at Chivay, the most important town of the valley. Accommodation in a suite at the fabulous Colca Lodge, set in the Colca Valley itself. With its very own hot springs, relax in the fabulous surroundings of the Canyon.
Day 10: Colca Canyon - Arequipa B
Early breakfast at the hotel. Then an early departure to Cruz del Condor viewpoint, a few kilometers before Cabanaconde, where the Colca Canyon starts. Here one gets a fine view of the flight of the condors as well as of the depth of the canyon. In the afternoon return to Arequipa and to the 4* Sonesta Posada Hotel.
Day 11: Arequipa - Lima - Iquitos B,L,D
After breakfast, transfer to the airport for the flight to Iquitos, in the heart of the Amazon jungle. Start of your exotic jungle honeymoon. Transfer to the river dock where you will begin the trip to the Explorama Lodge. Along the way you will briefly see Iquitos, founded in the XIX Century. The trip along the Amazon will allow you to enjoy a wonderful panorama in which the beauty of the Amazon makes its way through the lush jungle, and where picturesque villages appear on the shores of the river. Arrival at the lodge. The lodge is built in the native-style and is surrounded by trees, plants and flowers; with many birds and butterfly species. While your naturalist guide explains the lodge facilities and the activities to come, the staff will serve you with a refreshing "welcome drink" made with exotic fruits. You will then be escorted to your honeymoon suite. The programme starts with a short walk or canoe ride, according to the season, to visit a Yagua tribe community, one of the most ancient ethnic groups of the Amazon rainforest. Here you will have the chance to try the "pucuna" or blowgun. Return to the lodge. Lunch. In the afternoon you will proceed with an ethno-botanic tour around the lodge, where you will be able to distinguish certain species of the many indigenous plants. Visit to a "shaman" who will explain about the regional flora and its useful applications. Tour to the Santa María del Ojeal farmlands where you will see the artisan sugar cane squeeze. You will also visit a fish farm to observe native fish and walk around a typical village on the shores of the Amazon. A romantic evening canoe ride or thrilling walk in the jungle and then return to the lodge. Dinner.
Day 12: Iquitos B,L,D
After breakfast, a full day exploration of the primary jungle reserve in the Yanayacu River ecosystem followed by a navigation in open boats on the Amazon River to spot for pink dolphins. Arrival in the Huashalado Village from where you will make a short walk to the Yanayacu River, where another boat will be waiting to take you the "Kingdom of the Giant Trees", amongst them the "lupuna" or ceiba. This is a favorite site for birds since it is in the river that they find the fish and fruit that grow on the banks. With a bit of luck, you may see monkeys moving in the tree tops or perhaps a sloth hanging from a branch. Boxed lunch on the boat or on the edge of the river. Primary jungle hike by trail or canoe ride, according to the season, in which you will observe various plants and trees like the Victoria Regia, the largest water lily in the world which can reach a diameter 1.80 m. Return to the jungle lodge where on the way you will have the chance to practice native-style fishing of piranhas, mojarras and other species. If you wish, there will be an evening canoe ride or if you prefer, relax in a hammock or enjoy an exotic drink at the bar. Dinner.
Day 13: Amazon Jungle - Iquitos B,L,D
Breakfast at the lodge and then return to Iquitos and transfer to your hotel. Rest of the day free for shopping and personal activities. Romantic dinner at the 4* El Dorado Plaza Hotel with champagne.
Day 14: Iquitos - Mancora B
After breakfast, transfer to the airport for your return flight to Lima and then a connecting flight to Tumbes. Transfer to the wonderful private resort in Mancora on the Pacific Ocean, complete with private beach and all amenities. Retire to the wonderful honeymoon bungalow at the Las Arenas de Mancora Hotel which sits directly on the beach.
Day 15: Mancora B,D
Breakfast at the lodge. Free day to enjoy the private beach. Lunch on the beach or in the restaurant. Dinner with a bottle of wine.
Day 16: Mancora - Lima B
After breakfast, transfer to Tumbes for the flight to Lima and for your onward connecting flight home.
