Amazing Voyages kept track of us every day and we cannot explain how important it was to us to feel that we were in very good hands. Every driver and guide was always on time and very gracious and helpful and our every need was taken care of for us. We really appreciate your professionalism.

The Plaza Grande in Quito is absolutely fabulous, the Royal Palm in the Galapagos is the best hotel we ever stayed in; the chef is outstanding, his meals are some of the best we ever had. Did you know that Prince Charles stayed there when he visited the islands? We are sure that the service we received was just as good as his. We had a marvelous time in the Galapagos and it was living a dream.

Highlights Escape tour to Austria

ITINERARY
Day 1. Vienna City tour
Arrival at Vienna Airport and transfer to your hotel.
After settling in, you will embark on what is probably Vienna's finest city tour. Your licensed tour guide meets you at your hotel and takes you on an extensive 3-hour sightseeing tour covering the very best of Vienna's history and art and hop off the car any time you wish with your guide. You will drive along the famous Ring boulevard and marvel at the impressive buildings in the style of Historism constructed under Emperor Franz Josef, such as the State Opera House, the Museum of Fine Art, the Parliament, the City Hall, the Court Theatre and the University. At Hero's Square you can take pictures of the vast complex of the Imperial Palace. The former residence of the Habsburgs boasts over 2.600 rooms. You will tour the Palace tomorrow.
Leaving the city center you arrive at the Danube area, location of the United Nations buildings and the Danube Tower. You also visit the nearby Prater amusement park with the world-famous Giant Ferris Wheel.
On the way to the Schönbrunn Palace you pass other sites such as the City Park with the famous golden statue of Johann Strauss, St. Charles' church and the concert hall of the Musikverein. The visit of Schoenbrunn Palace and grounds (Unesco World Heritage) is another highlight of this tour. The former summer residence of the Habsburgs is Austria's number one tourist attraction. Take your time to marvel at the impressive palace and visit the amazing gardens. Skip the line as we will reserve your tickets in advance, so you don't have to wait in line.
The tour ends back at your hotel.
Decide for yourself where to stop and how much time you wish to spend at each location.
Free afternoon. Overnight in Vienna.

Day 2. Vienna (Breakfast)
Free day at leisure.

Day 3. Vienna Walking Tour & Ferris Wheel (Breakfast)
After breakfast at hotel, enjoy a private half day walking tour through Vienna's historic city centre. Your guide will meet you directly at your hotel and take you to the most important sights. First you will be introduced to St. Stephen's cathedral in detail. This majestic gothic structure with its great South Tower and roof is covered with 230.000 glazed tiles. The interior of the church is considered by some to be the world's most beautiful.
Then your guide will show you the amazing area behind the cathedral with its narrow streets and hidden courtyards. See the house where Mozart wrote his famous opera "The Marriage of Figaro" and see the typical "Pawlatschen" access balconies.
Across the famous Graben street you arrive at the plague column, a unique masterpiece from the baroque era. Take a quick glimpse into the marvelous church of St. Peter with your guide. If you're lucky you might hear the organ being played. Then you will walk along the Kohlmarkt, Vienna's most elegant shopping street, resisting the temptation to enter the Demel confectionery and the many designer boutiques.
You will also visit the vast complex of the Imperial Palace. With over 2.600 rooms it is one of the world's largest building complexes. Admire the ample wings and courtyards of the Hofburg , the Spanish Riding School, the stables of the Lipizzan horses and the church of St. Augustine. There Emperor Franz Josef married his 16 year old cousin Sisi. You also see several locations from the famous movie "The Third Man".
At the end of the walking tour your guide will show you the Sacher hotel (famous for its chocolate cake), the Albertina museum and the Monument against War and Fascism. Today, you will return to the world-famous Giant Ferris Wheel and enjoy some time riding the wheel marvelling at the sites of Vienna from above (currently the tickets are not included in the price)

Day 4. Vienna Woods Tour (Breakfast)
After breakfast at the hotel, pick up for your private half day Vienna Woods Tour Your private guide will pick you up at your Vienna hotel and you will travel by private minivab for the Vienna Woods. After a short drive, you visit the scene of the famous tragedy of Mayerling. The Austrian crown-prince Rudolph and the 17-year old baroness Mary Vetschera tragically committed suicide in the imperial hunting lodge in Mayerling in 1889. With your guide, tour the commemorative chapel and the small museum.
Driving west you quickly reach the medieval abbey of Heiligenkreuz. Beautifully situated within the Vienna Woods it is one of the highlights of this tour. With your guide visit the Romanesque cloister, the fountain house and the chapter house with the coffin of the last ruler of the Babenberg family. You'll also see the amazing romanesque chapel (except Sundays).
Through the idyllic Helenental valley you drive on to the romantic wine-town of Gumpoldskirchen. Stop for a glass of wine in one of the local wineries before driving back to the city. Your half daytour concludes at your hotel in Vienna. Free afternoon at leisure.

Day 5. Vienna - Salzburg (Breakfast)
After breakfast at hotel, you will be picked up for a private trip to Salzburg visiting along the way 3 possible sites, the Abbey of Melk, the Memorial camp Mauthausen + the Lake District region.

The Abbey of Melk is mainly an indoor tour focused on history and architecture. The museum of the active convent Melk may be visited at 13:30 in November.
Abbot Berthold Dietmayr and his architects Jakob Prandtauer and Joseph Munggenast left no stone unturned in their quest from 1701 to 1736 to construct a sacred palace upon the foundations of a medieval monastery.
The centrepiece of this complex is the library, its main hall boasting 16,000 volumes and graced with a ceiling fresco by Paul Troger. A spiral staircase leads to another set of 12 library rooms not open to the public but containing more than 100,000 volumes, some of which are extremely valuable. The most important Baroque masters were commissioned with the artworks of the Abbey: Antonio Beduzzi for interior design, Johann Michael Rottmayr and Paul Troger for the frescos and altarpieces. It is no surprise that the beauty of the church is breathtaking, as is the view from the semi-circular exterior terrace looking out over the Wachau Valley.

The Memorial camp Mauthausen is more of an outdoor visit involves quite a lot of walking and is of particular interest to those keen on learning more about World War II.

The Lake district tour includes more driving and seeing things from the car, having short stops in small villages. Nature, lakes, mountains, and little towns are beautiful in all seasons.
The lake district lies on the way to Salzburg, we just take the country road instead of the motorway.
Entrance tickets are not included today as it depends what is open and where you would like to visit. Arrival and drop off at your hotel in Salzburg.

Day 6. Salzburg (Breakfast)
After breakfast at hotel, enjoy a 2 hour walking tour in Salzburg. Salzburg is a UNESCO listed Old City, resplendent with baroque churches and the tour will allow you to get first impressions about the city and your plans for the next day.
