The city of Mendoza, located 1200 km west of Buenos Aires in the foothills of the mighty Andes Mountains, is on the major international highway linking Argentina with the important seaports of Chile. Outdoor recreation abounds in the mountains, with rafting and mountaineering as the main highlights of the summer, and world class skiing and snowboarding in winter. The famous Cerro Aconcagua, America´s tallest peak, lies just west of Mendoza near the border of Chile and attracts climbers from around the world.
