Day 1: Arrive Bogota
Arrive in Bogota where you will be met and transferred to your hotel.
Day 2: Bogota (B)
Spend the day exploring Colombia's bustling capital with its mix of old and new, trendy and traditional. Founded in 1538 it is now Colombia's largest financial, political and cultural centre. In the morning enjoy a walking tour through the streets of La Candelaria, the oldest part of the city and Bogota's heart and soul. Bolivar Square is the focal point of the area and is home to the Palace of Justice, Colombian congress, The Mayor's Office and the Cathedral of Bogota. Also visit Botero Donation on Calle 11 where the works of Fernando Botero are permanently exhibited. After lunch visit the Gold Museum within the Banco de la Republica. The museum is one of the finest collections of gold in South America with 35,000 pre-Columbian pieces, including items which may have come from the legendary Lake Guatavita where the rulers of the area bathed covered in gold dust. From the museum take the funicular railway or cable car to the top of Monserrate, for the finest view of the city. Return to your hotel.
Day 3: Zipaquira Salt Cathedral - Pereira (B, D)
Drive to Zipaquira for your half day tour of its famous Salt Cathedral. Travel through countryside occupied by native Muisca to the salt mining town of Zipaquira. Within the mines is the famous cathedral, carved out of the salt, a marvel of engineering and an artistic masterpiece. After the Cathedral enjoy the colonial architecture of Zipaquira before transferring to the airport for your domestic flight to Pereira in the coffee region of Colombia. On arrival transfer to your hotel and enjoy dinner.
Day 4: Filandia, Valle Cocora and Salento (B, L)
Travel to Filandia, in the northeast of the Quindio region. The town is an attraction in itself and take a coffee break in one of the many small shops to soak up the atmosphere and the lines of brightly painted houses. From Filandia drive to the Valle Cocora which is part of the wider Parque Nacional Los Nevados - a sanctuary for Colombia's national symbol, the Wax Palm. From the valley continue to the picturesque town of Salento before returning to your hotel.
Day 5: Coffee Region (B, L)
Today enjoy a full day tour of the Coffee region and explore its quaint towns and stunning views. The first stop is the National Bamboo Centre before continuing through the hills and valleys of the region to Cordoba, a place where it seems time has stopped still. Travel further south of Pijao, where herons come to roost on the high branches of the trees every night. The final port of call is Buena Vista, sitting at 1450m above sea level. Return to your hotel.
Day 6: Hacienda Bambusa (B, D)
Enjoy a full day of leisure in you hotel. The Hacienda Bambusa offers the chance to relax by the pool, watch the local hummingbirds, or walk in the grounds. Enjoy dinner in the ground of the Hacienda.
Day 7: Coffee Region - Tayrona National Park (B)
Transfer to the airport for your flight to Santa Marta. On arrival you will be meet and taken directly to Tayrona National Park, and your eco lodge, in a 4X4 vehicle. The park sits at the edge of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta mountain range and stretches over 35 miles. The park is typified by perfect palm fringed beaches and golden sand while trails from the coast allow the visitor to explore the flora and fauna of the coastal jungle. The majority of the park is covered by virgin tropical forest with over 100 species of mammals, 200 species of birds and 50 species of reptiles. Monkeys can often be seen along the fringes of the beaches. The Park is also home to the indigenous Tayrona Indians and archaeological remains can still be found.
Day 8: Tayrona National Park (B)
Free day at leisure in the Park to relax on the beach or explore the jungle or local indigenous people.
Day 9: Tayrona National Park (B)
Further day at leisure in the Park.
Day 10: Tayrona National Park - Cartagena (B)
You will be met by your driver at your hotel and driven along the coast to the iconic city of Cartagena. On arrival transfer to your hotel.
Day 11: Cartagena (B)
In the morning take a walking tour of Cartagena's historic centre. Cartagena is a fusion of Africa, indigenous and European culture and is a living museum of the country's history. The tour takes you through the old town under the Puerta Del Reloj (Clock Gate) and into the Plaza de las Coches. Continue to the Plaza San Pedro Claver with its stunning Church before Plaza Bolivar with its shady areas. Afternoon at leisure.
Day 12: Cartagena (B)
Today explore more of Cartagena's sights with a half day driving tour. Begin with the Castillo San Felipe which is the largest Spanish fort in the Americas, dating from 1536. The fort features a labyrinth of tunnels underneath it, some of which are lit and accessible to visitors. From the fort travel to the Convento La Popa which is the highest point of the site and commands excellent views of the bay and old town. Afternoon at leisure.
Day 13: Cartagena (B)
Free day for your own exploration of the city and surrounding area.
Day 14: Cartagena (B)
Transfer to the airport for your flight to Bogota. Transfer to your hotel for overnight.
Day 15: Bogota (B)
Transfer to the airport for your international flight.
