Canaima National Park is located between the rainforest of the Amazon Basin and the watershed of the Orinoco River, a rugged wallof remote mountains and deep, heavily forested canyons. This is Canaima National Park and many of the mountains have precipitous rock walls that rise thousands of meters where they end in an almost perfectly flat top. These formations are known by their Indian name, Tepuis. Originally the tops of the Tepuis were joined together in a vast continuous plateau that stretched over a large part of northern South America from the Colombian Mountains into Guyana. Over the time erosion carved steep-walled valleys and crevices into the plateau leaving fragments of the plateau completely isolated. The region remains one of the most thinly settled and one of the most beautiful of all natural areas in South America. From one of these Tepuis plummets the world's highest waterfall: Angel Falls (979 meters). The fall is more than twice as high as the Empire State Building.
Day 3. CanaimaFull-day by canoe to the base of the Angel Falls. Early in the morning we board our motorized dugout canoes or "curiaras" in the Pemón Indian language. We travel up the Carrao river, and cross Mayupa lagoon and the Arautaima rapids, alwayssurrounded by the spectacular landscape of Canaima National Park. We enter Churún river, windingits way through the spectacular Devil's Canyon. One more turn, and we see the highest waterfall on earth. We leave our canoes, and walk for an hour through virgin rainforest, until arriving at a rocky ledge. We suddenly stand before the magnificence of the Angel Falls, a few hundred meters away, becoming drenched by the frenzy of spray. Lunch. In the afternoon return to Canaima lodge.
Day 4. CanaimaToday is a full day trekking tour to Tepuy Kuravaina with Pozo Azul.
The excursion begins by navigating the Carrao River on a curiara (indigenous boat) from Ucaima port; during the navigation we will have a view towards the extensive savannas and gallery forests where we can observe some or all of the following tepuis in the distance (depending on the weather): Nonoi, Kurun, Kusary, Kuravaina, Topochi and Auyantepuy. After 10 minutes of navigation on the Carrao River, we enter to navigate the narrow and winding Moroko channel, where we can observe fauna and varied vegetation such as the tree of life, the moriche "Kuai" as well as enjoy the reflection in the river of thewonderful jungle. Muroko is an ideal place for bird watchers. We will arrive at a port wherewe disembark and enjoy another extraordinary angle of the emblematic tepuis of Canaima. We will start a walk of approximately 30 min. until we reach a beautiful gallery forest, exhibiting a variety of palm trees and crystalline streams, many of them coming from the Kuravaina tepuy. We continue on foot to a waterfall in the heart of the gallery forest, where we can take a refreshing bath in the Pozo Azul. Then we will continue with another 50 min. walk, this time uphill . There are 498 meters of ascent until reaching the summit of the Kuravaina tepuy, giving rise to a spectacular landscape with an impressive view of the Kuraupa valley and face toface with the Kurun and Kusary tepuis. From there we will begin the descent for 30 min. and then a 40-min. flat walk through the extensive savannas. We return to embark on the curiara back to Ucaima port and our vehicles will be waiting for you, to take you back toWakü Lodge (15 min. drive). Duration of the experience: 5 to 6 hours. (round trip).

3 days/2 nights Catatumbo-Delta, incl. all meals and lodging (hammocks)
The source of Catatumbo River lies in the northwest of Colombia. The current brings fertile soil from the highlands to Maracaibo Lake. 124 rivers pour its water into the south side of the lake, which makes it one of the biggest lakes in South America. One of the world's unique spectacles can be seen here, the lighting of Catatumbo. This phenomenon occurs no matter how the weather or what time of the year is. Science has not yet explained the mystery of this spectacle but some believe that this energy comesfrom the earth's magnetic field.
Depart from El Vigia Airport. We will take the detour in the town of Lagunillas to visit this picturesque town and its well-known Laguna de Urao, with brackish waters, and with a great concentration of sodium Sesquicarbonate, a mineral better known as Urao which was used by the indigenous people, mixed with tobacco for the manufacture of Chimó. Our trip will continue towards the town of La Palmita and La Victoria where we will visit the Hacienda La Victoria in which the international coffee museum has been created. Perhaps make a stop at a "trapiche" which are small rural centers for the processing of sugar cane. Lunch along the way and continue our journey to the mouth of the Chama River, crossing huge plantations of banana and oil palm. We will arrive at the village of Puerto Concha, where we will leave our vehicles and continue the trip in fishing boats. The journey to the town of Ologá will last approximately two hours with somestops for wildlife observation. We will set up camp at the Palafito with a barbecue in the middle of Lake Maracaibo.
